Japchae (잡채)

Today I made Japchae with y’all, so here’s the recipe for it! It’s a great celebration meal, so perfect for the holidays as well. Keep in mind that the traditional version will use some sort of a meat (pork usually), and more veggies like spinach, and bell peppers, but I was too lazy to get more groceries and deal with raw meat so I just made a vegetarian version haha.

Please follow along the video for the process! The ingredients are listed below.

Ingredients

  • Dangmyeon* (handfull)

  • Onion (Large 1/2)

  • Mushrooms* (About 5 Large)

  • Carrots (2 small)

  • Paprika* (1 tsp)

  • Soy Sauce* (3-4 Tbsp)

  • Sesame Oil* (1.5 Tbsp)

  • Sugar (1 Tbsp)

  • Salt & Pepper (Your liking)

  • Ggae* (Your liking)

  • Rice* (If you want to eat this as a side dish)

Korey's Note

  • Dangmyeon:* You can usually find these in any Korean mart (especially H-Mart)
  • Mushrooms:* Shiitake Mushrooms are used usually but i just used white mushrooms
  • Paprika:* I just used this instead of using bell peppers lol
  • Soy Sauce:* I like using Kikkoman's (DO NOT USE LOW SODIUM LIKE I DID)
  • Sesame Oil:* The yellow cap bottle one is the one I always use
  • Ggae:* There's many different types. Always use the roasted one for garnishing
  • Rice:* I always eat short grain sushi rice
